Mark Hillen, co-founder of Social Enterprise NL and Social Enterprise Lab, has been engaged in social entrepreneurship since 2012. Today Social Enterprise NL is the driver of social entrepreneurship in the Netherlands and supports social enterprises with substantive knowledge programs, coaching & network events and stimulates social entrepreneurship with governments at local and national level.

Together with Social Enterprise NL co-founder Willemijn Verloop and Kaat Peters, Hillen wrote the book ‘Things That Hit You’ which describes how social enterprises deal with major social issues. He also wrote Everyone work, everyone profits and together with Willemijn Verloop, Improve the World, start a business.

Mark Hillen studied economics at the University of Amsterdam and started his career at Accenture in 1985. By the time he was Managing Partner in 2007, he left Accenture. Hillen subsequently acted as an advisor, director, supervisor and investor for a variety of initiatives including Socionext, Ish, BiD network, Snowballs & Flywheels, Wekomenerwel, Africa Unsigned and Evodos.
