The DWaCEP technology utilizes the vast levels of Potential Energy (PE) that are in deep bodies of water.
Long description
The DWaCEP (Deep Water Column Electrical Power) technology is like existing forms of hydroelectric power, in that it uses fast flowing water to drive hydro turbines but unlike existing hydropower systems, DWaCEP systems do not require a dam. A typical DWaCEP system would actually be mounted on the steel formwork of an offshore oil platform, or foundations of offshore windmills and possibly even attached to dedicated ships.
A basic DWaCEP system will consist of a flow pipe with a typical diameter of 10.0’ and a length of 100.0’ to 300.0’. A turbine generator would be placed at the base of the pipe, along with an exit pump placed below the turbine generator, which will evacuate the lower water volumes. The base of that whole assembly would be placed at depths of 500.0’ or more and that is where the system operates.
The basic operating principle is initiating the freefall flow in the flow pipe by evacuating or pumping free the lower support volumes of water out of the flow pipe. It has been found that very little energy is required to remove the lower support volumes of the water from the base of the pipe, and so doing, allowing the freefall flow of the upper volumes. From a range of flow calculations it has been determined that power output can be 500 times the water evacuation pump energy and the total power output can be 100 MW to 1,000 MW!
