Amsterdam, ready for climate change; it produces its own energy - adopt solar energy , green roofs and new isolation to save energy.

Long description

Amsterdam is ready for an energy transition, renewable energy has the future. In the old center, there are some things that could be done. First of all, a lot of old buildings has flat roofs behind the facades. Those roofs can be turned into green roofs: this will solve the isolation- and heath island problems. Secondly, on those roofs, there can be places solar panels. Third, the glass windows could be replaced by double glazing windows for a better isolation. In the streets, there can be placed new street lights, street lights with solar panel on top which only switch on with movement of humans/cars/bikes. Secondly there can be placed trees in front of houses to give shadow, which will help to cool the apartments during summer. Those transitions can be used throughout the whole metropole of Amsterdam.

Everywhere, except the old center, many small parks and square could be transformed into water adaptation parks. Which means they lay lower than the streets and could catch water during heavy rainfall.

On the peat meadows, there can be a transition made to paludiculture. Not every parcel needs to be transformed, but just enough to store water during rainfalls and use it for agriculture and cooling during summer.

At the airport of Schiphol Miscanthus plant would be grown for biomass production and Bio-fuel to heath the city and provide the households with fuel for transportation and cooking.
