Banana value addition, processing and marketing

Long description

This technology is a response to the high perishability of bananas and the existing  manual processing technologies, which leads to low products. The technology involves organizing and training smallholder farmers to produce quality bananas  which are aggregated, into two categories; cooking bananas for Flour, Powder, Chips and crisps and Dessert bananas for ripening and processed  into banana Juice/Wine.The company is targeting 30% of the current production in both Kisii and Nyamira counties for crisps, flour and Juice/Wine productions.

Currently, the company has a production capacity of 5000 kg per week which is semi-manually produced. To expand this capacity, the company needs to invest in products development and also in automated processing and packaging technology, at a cost of between $ 70,000 USD and $ 200,000 USD.
