Biogas Easy will use locally available elements to create bio-digesters for lower income communities in Kenya.

Long description

The recent rise in fuel prices and the ban on charcoal have left the middle and low income communities with fewer options for cooking solutions. The reason biogas isn’t viewed as a viable solution as a source of fuel is because of the following:

  1. The misconception that it is hard to build or install
  2. The lack of education into it as an alternative fuel source
  3. The odor the system produces
  4. The mentality that it is unhygienic.

The above assumptions will need to be addressed by a product with an campaign accompanying it. The Biogas easy system will be easy to build and for upscale markets will be designed to be easy to assemble and move. The campaign for the product will aim to educate the communities about the campaign by also using communal kitchens powered by biogas in slum and low income communities. The systems will use food waste and bird waste rather than animal waste to produce biogas, this is according to research carried out into Dr. Anand Karve’s biogas system here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5Aw39B930g; using food waste produced less odours and due the sugars found in the food helps increase the output and efficiency of the system by upto 400%.  The use of food waste will also help reduce the mentality of the people towards the hygiene of the system.

The final advantage of the system is it’s ability to use the effluence from the systems as a fertilizer to be used in urban farms.
