The project will develop and implement wayfinding and street signage for pedestrians in one of the most iconic neighbourhoods in the city.

Long description

The project will implement a legible system on the streets of Bixiga. Legibility informs people walking where they are, whats is around, connections to other transports and public services and the history of the places. Wayfinding systems are a way of making people walk more, makes more activities locally and promote safer and more comfortable walking experience without changing the structure of the city. Through street sign of navigation, indication and information for pedestrians is possible to build a more walkable neighbourhood, showing how design, arts and information can improve the city structure with low cost and boost other structural improvements by making there more visible.

The project proposes to co-build with the community the signage, mapping and the identity. Design, art, research, connectivity and urban space intelligence, community engagement is our knowledge. Mixing it all with all community inputs we will create the visual identity for the neighbourhood legible system, the content of the plaque, the location and model of the material, legible artistic elements and finally put all on business facades, walls, and poles.

Anyone on the streets will benefit from the project and learn while walking. We hope to boost this development to the city in order to make more people stop using car with no need and change some displacements for walking by having the information, the motivation and the incentives to do so.
