ChargeOn Bike charges smartphones with clean energy from cycling and aims to incentivise the energy saving experience amongst Amsterdam’s ever-growing cycling population (881,000 bicycles, 68% of traffic in 2017).

Every time cyclists charge their smartphones using the affordable ChargeOn Bike dynamo, the mobile app (both Android & iPhone) will show information about battery charging, energy transition plans (gas-free by 2050) and links to Amsterdam’s cycling community. Therefore, it has the potential to create and activate a community of clean energy savers.

The app will collect clean energy data in the background so it does not require active use of the mobile phone while cycling. The app will also allow users to set up their own clean energy goals. This will help to gamify the energy saving experience and incentivise motivation to get off the gas by 2050. Users will be able to collect reward points which could be exchanged for discounts at bike shops, local cafes, shops, etc.
