Fungi Cultivation System is a viable alternative for urban agriculture. It's designed to be used by inexperienced people in urban contexts.
Long description
Our Fungi Cultivation System is a product designed for the inexperienced mushroom grower. The system’s main cartridge is made out of 100% biodegradable bioplastic. The cartridge is sold along with its ready for use substrate mix, so that the user needs only to attach the cartridge to the irrigation system to begin growing mushrooms. The porous ceramic material of the irrigation piece has no enamel on the bottom, which allows for an effective water filtration pattern into the fungi crops. Unlike most growing systems that require irrigation for two to three times a day, our/this system only requires the irrigation piece to be filled with water once or twice per week. This system is a viable alternative for urban agriculture. It represents a great opportunity for people who lack the knowledge on how to start producing crops, to start doing it in places that would otherwise seem to lack the necessary space and environmental conditions. A comparative analysis of crops that can be effectively grown in reduced urban spaces reveals the many beneficial qualities of fungi production. Fungi have a high production volume in reduced spaces, great nutritional value, and can yield (depending on the species) great potential for commercial harvesting. However, unlike many other crops, fungi require close care within a controlled environment to ensure their successful growth and harvest. This project aims at facilitating the growing process and making it both accessible and comprehensible to inexperienced growers harvesting in an urban context.
