A fusion of gym and vegetable garden, where physical exercises merge with food cultivation, diminishing the demand for food freights.

Long description

Food production is constantly being pushed away from the cities, increasing the energy cost and environmental impact. The world food chain mostly relies on trucks as carriers between producers and sellers; particularly in Brazil, they are the main carriers for all sorts of goods. Trucks though are one of the world least energy-efficient means of transport as well as they are responsible for the biggest GHG emission of the transportation sector. Moreover, the highest product loss within the supply chain occurs during the freight shipping.

G! Motion aims at the creation of gyms in which physical exercise is associated to the care and maintenance of urban vegetable gardens in order to promote local organic production and reduce the food-related freight traffic in São Paulo.

Building rooftops are the first target location of the project, as they are mostly idle areas and have great solar incidence. G! Motion would offer an alternative to indoor gyms while creating green roof structures to capture carbon inside the city.

G! Motion has a cross-sector impact in the social, economic and environmental areas: not only it promotes local production, which mitigates the emission and waste issues, it also contributes to the city’s food self-sufficiency. In addition to its clearest objectives, G! Motion fosters local economy, ignites possible new relationships between neighbours, and allows citizens to have access to nature in a city that lacks green spots.
