Design is based on algae panels that are used to produce sustainable energy and improve the living conditions for the citizens of Amsterdam.

Long description

The focus of the design is to provide a renewable energy source and improvement of living conditions for the whole city of Amsterdam. The aim is to create a product that could be implemented into few different layers of the city. Therefor not only focusing on the iconic city center but also the surrounding areas with the modern high rise and the infrastructure of the city. Where the design will be more discrete in the city center where the incorporation of the product will less visible and the other areas of the city. Therefore, the goal for this product is the possibility to be implemented in different scales. This makes it that it can grow with Amsterdam’s needs and acceptance before a full-scale implementation to the city.

The design is based on algae, to produce various meanings of energy. Resent years research increased the knowledge of the process to derive biofuel from algae. Closed system algae farming allows more intensive production moreover, increase grow rates and reduce contamination. The closed systems can be compact design where if needed, one can control environmental conditions to further increase the growth of the algae.

The algae system is phototrophic which means it uses sunlight carbon dioxide to grow. With the process it will produce oxygen just like plants. The produced algae can be used in different ways to benefits the urban structure and the sustainable image of Amsterdam.
