Interactive, mobile expo to show kids the possibilities of renewable energy, exploring solar and wind energy and building sustainable toys.

Long description

How does a young child draw a house? A square with a window and door, and then a triangle with a chimney for a roof. How do we get children to draw homes with solar panels instead?

We are wondering: “How to involve families in the transition to renewable energy?” How do you start a dialogue about new technologies, or how to save energy?

The Verspeelplein is a mobile sustainability campaign. We plan to evolve the installations as we travel around the country.   Our installations will receive ‘updates’ and new interactions will be developed. The ‘square’ will change in response to developments in renewable energy.

Over 1500 children and parents have interacted with the Verspeelplein since its launch in October 2018.

Implementing and observing this project has given us plenty of inspiriation for improvements: More diversity in technology, installations that can be moved indoors and more tools for participants to continue their discovery after a visit to the “Verspeelplein”. We intend to expand the entire concept: “The Verspeelplein as a traveling, interactive science centre with its focus on sustainability”. Leaving permanent traces through adding installations to playgrounds and creating additions to existing educational programs is an excellent way to transfer knowledge in an interactive and accessible manner.

We wish to join other experts, such as researchers, power companies and teachers, in a network of specialists to work together to make further improvements. Our goal is to be inspired by the latest developments and continuously translate these into interactive, educational installations.
