Magnetreecity is a project about converting the mechanical motion of trees into electricity by changing magnetic field.

Long description

The structure of Magnetreecity consists of a spring at its base attached with a neodymium magnet which is further attached via string to the source of mechanical motion (tree). A copper coil surrounds the whole setup. The ends of the coil are attached via wire to a battery.

The apparatus works on the basic principal of magnetic induction. As the source begins to move, it leads to to and fro motion of magnet. The changing magnetic field generates electric current in the coil. This voltage, albeit having lower value, can be used for ultra-low power applications.

The string can be attached to trees in coastal areas where wind speed is usually higher. The swaying motion of tree will generate electricity. It can be utilised for low power LED bulbs especially of larger wavelength.
