OXAI is a project that proposes to develop a process of upcycling of rust in order to generate new resources in our economy from metal waste

Long description

The project aims to use rust (iron oxide III), a residue obtained during the metal waste recycling process, for the development of a new material that can be applied for the construction of decorative pieces or as raw material for makeup and electronic components. It has a low environmental impact since the oxide is mixed with candelilla wax, an organic and endemic material, as well as green, red and/or black clay to change its properties. The objective of the project is to eradicate polluting rust residue and promote the candelilla industry inside the country. Candelilla wax, although it is locally produced and of high international interest, hasn’t found the correct support for its development in Mexico. The use of these basic materials to create a more complete and appealing product can boost the economies of all parties involved in recycling rusted pieces of metal and producing the plant of Candelilla. OXAI can also be used as an additive for other recycled materials like PET or PVC taking advantage of the properties of its components to improve their physical characteristics.
