Plug Inc. is a system of smart plugs that learn from consumer behavior and turn off automatically their devices when they are not needed.
Long description
In the fight against climate change, an area seems to be often left out: Electricity Leaking. It is the amount of unnecessary electricity consumed each hour by home devices and it can be significant. For example, studies show that in the U.S., standby power accounts for 4 – 12% of a typical home’s total energy consumption. Only 9% of the energy generated generated in Amsterdam is ‘sustainable’, therefore, alongside promoting more renewable energy, a decrease of the total energy consumption and avoiding electricity leaking is a necessary step.
Our technology does just that.
Our kit is composed of a hub and several smart plugs and an app. The smart plugs communicate with the hub through Zigbee, a low energy consumption wireless protocol,. The hub will translate the information from Zigbee to the Wifi protocol and send it to our algorithm that is located on a remote server. The algorithm will analyze these information and uncover the patterns of consumption. The results will be sent back the user’s app in the form of energy saving advice.
On the app, the user will see the results of his/her consumption. Gamification will be used to understand the user behavior and use of his appliances. If the user thinks the advice are adequate, information will be sent to the hub and then translated to the smart plugs so that the changes can take place.
