Creating a network of local actors to reorganize how we think of recycling

The project is aimed to empower the waste-pickers by acknowledging their contribution to solid wasted separation. That is, creating and identifying the characteristics of the waste-pickers and to link them with waste’s holders (business and schools principally) specially in the city center of Mexico. This project starts by searching the possibility to make people aware that sanctions can be implemented in the long run. Wwe need the collaboration of the local government. The pilot area will be the city center neighborhood in order to put an order on waste recycling. By leading with example, we hope this works for scaling it up on other neighborhoods. We propose the local government rule over the schedules on waste picking. We propose that a certain hour the people put outside their houses the recycling material rather than mixing all the garbage. The aim in that waste-pickers (not the trash buses) pick up the material so they could sell it afterwards. We need to assure a basic income to them by doing research on the prices of the materials (plastic, paper, etc). It is pretended to link directly the waste-pickers and waste holders. But most importantly, to link them with the big companies that already recycles.

Finally, we pretend to fix this recycle project by organization of people and sensibilization campaigns plus linking waste pickers with waste producers trough the app that aims to show the localization of them via maps and to register if the exchange of garbage has been done a where.
