School Rooftop Revolution: All Dutch school rooftops covered with solar panels, all kids learn on and about sustainability

Schooldakrevolutie's mission is to cover every suitable Dutch schoolroof with solar power and use savings for education on sustainability

Long description

Our foundation will remove all hurdles that prevent schools (elementary and high schools) from going solar- which is a starting point for making schools and the curriculum more sustainable. We want to make Amsterdam one of the first cities where all pupils learn on and about solar power.

We make going solar so simple and fun, a total ‘no brainer’ for schools, that NO is not an option.

We launch a School Rooftop Revolution fund of 100m Euro, which allows all schools to go solar without own funding while saving on the energy bill from day 1. Savings can be spend on selected education programs on sustainability.

Our foundation also provides technical assistance and provides a hassle free switch to solar experience.

Our Foundation will launch a high profile regional (among others Amsterdam!) and then nation wide campaign directed to all Dutch schools with support of the national and local governments, the school associations, and other parties that add credibility to this initiative.

Parallel to approaching the schools top-down we launch a campaign directed to children. We will encourage them to challenge their school leaders with a simple question and call to action for schools: ‘clean and cheap’ power versus ‘dirty and expensive’. The choice is theirs, but no is not an option. We have made a customized design for a solar system for all 6000 schools- the School Rooftop Revolution map, which will aid kids in the conversation with their head masters or teachers.
