We re-think the role of citizens in waste management, civil duty and common welfare. We made circular furniture out of plastic waste.

Long description

Currently, only one in 20 citizens of Mexico City separates their waste. According to the UN, in Mexico, the consumption of plastic is excessive. Plastics represent 11% of all solid urban waste, of which 50% had a single use. We dream about having neighborhoods where citizens are proactively collaborating in proper waste management and in having a better living in the neighborhood. Our two main goals 1) changing the current role of citizens in waste management and 2) fostering a sense of community. For this, we will set up the “Citizen of the Future Studio” a place where materials are re-used for co-creating together with the society products that are needed in the neighborhood. We will select neighborhoods where there are schools, housing units and ideally a park. Schools and housing buildings will be invited to participate in this social project to separate their waste at home and to deliver plastics to our company as clean as possible. Their incentive will be that all collected plastic will be used for 3-D printing of furniture. For example, bins for separating waste, classroom desks, tables, composters, roof sheets, rain-water collectors, playgrounds and even modules for aeroponic urban farming. Everyone participating in the project will be invited to visit the Studio and some to be part of the designing process. We will give educational campaigns about good practices in waste separation, civic duties and reducing plastic use. We sell furniture and other 3D printed objects on demand as a source of income.
