Duco lab wants to promote recycling in our neighbourhood and industry by adding value to the waste we generate daily.

Long description

Duco lab is a Design and Production team working in Mexico City. We currently design and manufacture over 500 products per month for the architecture and furniture industry in Mexico, involving different materials such as metal, wood, plastic and others. It may not sound like a lot compared to other high mass production industries around the globe or even in the country, but multiplied by hundreds of factories and informal workshops across our neighbourhood, there is a lot of waste regarding the production and packaging processes that could be better managed. Together we can start generating a proper waste management program that considers the afterlife of that “waste”. Usually these type of regulation is encouraged by the government, but unfortunately today it hasn´t been the case in the municipality where we are located in. We want to start implementing recycling processes for the materials that can be upcycled through design. We have already worked with recycled plastic sheets in other projects, but unfortunately the market for these materials is not very developed in our country. We have encountered high costs with different providers due to the little demand for them. We as producers and designers have the responsibility to apply best practices and set the trends for these type of materials to be used to create beautiful products. The Upcycling Program would involve all areas within the company and invite some of our allies and providers.
